Birds Playing Guitar

(via several sites) Artwork created by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot at Barbican Centre, London. The music kind of reminds me of Neil Young’s musical score of Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man“. Enjoy!

Art Review: Chelsea Galleries

With a handful of friends, it was once again time to explore Chelsea’s art galleries.  This was a better visit than usual and I definitely saw some good things, but what really stood out for me was the current exhibition, “Speed & Chaos” at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery.

I haven’t seen this powerful of a group show in Chelsea in a while and was happy to see this in a fairly young gallery (2002) with artists I didn’t previously know. Also, it was an all Asian artist show that transcended any obvious typical ethnic art. Yeah, I know, I sound like a total white boy, but I like art that isn’t obviously made by, say a Chinese man or a Caucasian woman, art that transcends race and gender is my kind of work. It won’t get you a scholarship, but it will give you some street cred. The combination of an antique aesthetic from Huang’s sculptures (above) combined with a highly amusing interactive video from the same artist is not typical Chelsea cookie cutter art. Check out this show before it ends on February 17.
