Happy 4th of July from Wacky Greenpoint

To the All-American Chinese marathoner guy who has the mini-Twin Towers tribute on his Nassau Avenue building and today has a battery-powered speaker playing patriotic music, smiling and flashing peace signs in McGolrick Park,  I say, “God bless America and Happy Extra Wacky Day in Greenpoint, Brooklyn!!  There were two separate, distinct drunk Polish screamers at the exact same moment I saw this dude in action. Go America!!

Katastrofa

While I was in Vancouver last week, Greenpoint’s Polish community, along with all Polish people suffered a dramatic loss that is hard to compare to anything in modern history, which was the plane crash in Russia that killed their president and several high ranking cabinet and military members and their spouses.  Being an outsider to this community, even though I live in the middle of it, there’s no direct way to see their mourning other than a few flags around the neighborhood marked with the typical black ribbon memorial.  I’m surprised with how little press it received both nationally and locally on community blogs.
